Britain has won praise from industry and research groups for an ambitious policy report into the biotechnology industry released by a government advisory group on Monday (November 17).

The report was produced by the Bioscience Innovation and Growth Team (BIGT) and makes a slew of proposals designed to help Britain maintain its place at the forefront of the biotech industry in Europe.

BIGT is led by the UK BioIndustry Association and is supported by the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Health. The government said on Monday that a working group led by John Pattison, the Department of Health's director of research and development, will consider the issues raised by its report together with another by the Academy of Medical Sciences, and come up with practical proposals.
