British doctors react to a year of scandals

British doctors are at last beginning to react to a series of scandals — ranging from serial murder to botched operations — which have dogged the profession over the past 12 months.

According to the British Medical Journal, the UK's General Medical Council — which judges such cases and which last week dramatically lost a vote of confidence at the British Medical Association's annual conference — has unveiled a package of reforms that it hopes will appease its critics.
