There is an urgent need for quantitative biomarkers for neurological and psychiatric disorders to assess disease risk, facilitate diagnoses, and measure drug treatment efficacy. Due to the selective permeability of the blood-brain barrier, there are only trace amounts of brain-derived proteins in the plasma and cerebrospinal fluid, which makes it challenging to develop convenient biomarker testing for brain disorders. Researchers look beyond the traditional protein assays and combine transcriptomics and functional imaging approaches to revolutionize brain disorder diagnostics.

In this virtual symposium, an expert panel will discuss how advances in single-cell sequencing, fluid-based RNA detection, and functional imaging accelerate biomarker discovery to better understand the brain in health and disease.
