Westinghouse Searches For Science Talent
The Westinghouse Science Talent Search is boosting its awards total this year from $140,000 to $205,000. High school seniors can apply for these scholarships to fund individual research projects in science, mathematics, and engineering at the college or university of their choice. Forty finalists will receive scholarships ranging from $1,000 (30 recipients) to $40,000 (one recipient).
Westinghouse will also pick up the tab for a five-day trip to Washington, D.C.--Feb. 28-March 5, 1991--for the final stages of the competition and the awards ceremony. Past winners have gone on to receive other prominent awards, such as Nobel Prizes, Fields Medals, and the National Medal of Science.
The California Department of Education, interested in increasing the number of California students who participate, began a program this year to offer incentive grants of $500 to California science teachers willing to actively encourage their students to participate. Part of ...
