Calleen Zach, a research assistant and database manager at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, stole research grant funds, forged petty cash receipts, lied to university officials, and falsified subject enrollment numbers in two NIH grant applications, according to a report by the Office of Research Integrity (ORI) published yesterday (February 2).
Zach committed the misconduct in 2008 and 2009, according to the report. Her “intentionally deceptive behavior” constituted a “a lack of trustworthiness,” federal officials wrote, and Zach is now barred from working as a government contractor or serving as an adviser to the Public Health Service for 5 years.
