Neural stem cells have the potential to become any part of the nervous system. This year’s 7th place winner in the Nikon Small World Photomicrography Competition shows what such cells look like after becoming neurons. This image was taken by Jianqun Gao, a neurologist at the University of Sydney. Neuronal extensions glow in green and red, with nuclei featured in blue at 20x magnification.
