Cronkite, the recipient of a medal and a cash prize of $10,000, has been a member of the Brookhaven staff since 1954. In the 1960s, Cronkite developed the technique of irradiating blood outside the living body as a treatment for chronic leukemia. He currently is studying the toxic effects of AZT, an anti-AIDS drug.
