Because scientists aren't able to extract sufficient quantities of peptides from natural sources for their experiments, a growing number of companies are custom-manufacturing peptides for research. Synthetic peptides are used for a variety of molecular biological applications, including monoclonal or polyclonal antibodies for immunological research, peptidomemetics, and the testing of prospective drugs in clinical trials.
