Life science investigators use antibodies in a wide assortment of technologies and applications, creating a large, highly competitive marketplace for suppliers. In a recent survey of more than 1,100 researchers conducted by the market intelligence and consulting firm Frost & Sullivan and editors of The Scientist Magazine, 25 percent of respondents reported that their laboratories’ antibody reagent needs were not being met; 38 percent could not find a commercial supplier for their specific targets, species or applications. These statistics suggest that there are still significant opportunities for developing new products to meet the needs of researchers, and to profit from doing so.
