Water sources. Two grants from the Ford Foundation: $300,000 over three years to the University of Colorado for research on improved western water allocation and management, and $500,000 over two years to the Environmental Defense Fund, New York, for research on western water quality and allocation issues

Habitat survey and restoration research. $250,000 over three years from the J. N. Pew Jr. Charitable Trust to the Nature Conservancy, Arlington, Va., for work at Guanacaste National Park, Costa Rica

HEALTH SCIENCES:

Family health studies. Three grants from the Spencer Foundation, Chicago: $141,200 over three years to Hampshire College (Mass.) for research on how young children learn to reason; $268,575 to Louisiana State University ...
