LONDON — Professor Stephen Hawking — Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge — cements his position as the UK's foremost writer on the physics of the Universe, by scooping the £10,000 Aventis Prize for Science Books.
In his book 'The Universe in A Nutshell' Hawking attempts the not inconsiderable task of trying "to combine Einstein's General Theory of Relativity and Richard Feynman's idea of multiple histories into one complete unified theory that will describe everything that happens in the universe."
The panel of judges, chaired by psychiatrist and journalist Raj Persaud, said that the book was, "authoritative, hugely ambitious and beautifully illustrated."
Continuing their domination of the children's science book prize, The DK Guides take this year's prize for Richard Walker's DK Guide to the Human Body.
