Hair-like structures, called cilia, extending from cells that line the oviduct move eggs toward the uterus. Researchers have found that the hormone progesterone speeds up the motion of these cilia in mice by increasing calcium ion concentrations within these cells. These findings were published August 14 in Science Signaling.
