Researchers report the bacterial species Mucispirillum schaedleri provides some protection against Salmonella infection in mice. Salmonella and Mucispirillum compete directly for resources in the gut, and Mucispirillum is able to limit the spread of Salmonella infection and its virulence, write the authors of a recent study.
