Since its discovery by Arnold Levine in 1979, the tumor protein p53 has transformed the field of cancer research. p53 signaling plays a key role in regulating the cell cycle, maintaining genome stability, and preventing mutations caused by stress or DNA damage. In fact, more than 50% of human cancers have a mutation in the p53 gene.
